I have a Windows 7 system on which Windows Update is not working. I start a Windows Update and it says ‘Checking for updates’ and it sits there for hours and never comes back with a list of possible updates, which is what I would expect it to do. I have also renamed the Software Distribution folder, all to no avail. The system is a dual boot system. It did have a Windows XP partition and a Windows 7 partition. The problem was on the existing Windows 7 partition, so I performed a brand new Windows installation in the XP partition.

I tried a Windows Update in this new partition and had the same problem. All in all, I’ve run out of options to try. Does anyone have any other ideas please? Good Day Is this the only computer with WU issues? Have you restarted the WU service and then a gpupdate?
