You can disable automatic assignment stuff there if your controllers are supported. Press your backspace key to delete it. Recording Light is an interface to a light that indicates you are recording, they have them in studios – you don’t need this Rebuild Defaults is not linked to any issue you are having, ignore it for now.

The control surface icons have an exclamation mark in the top left corner. When I put them there by accident Logic tells you to set them up manually but how exactly? That’s different to a «Control Surface», which has a very specific meaning.

Your keyboard won’t work as a Control Surface, but you can use it via MIDI, and you can learn various Logic commands to it’s buttons and controls. Also check the manual for the Yamaha, to see whether it will work as an emulated control surface Mackie Control, HUI or similar, maybe..?

I’ve changed the name of the Device to Yamaha S90ES so it’s a start, doesn’t work yet as it’s still not seen anywhere else in LPX and not sure how to do that. Still can’t delete anything in the Control Surfaces Setup page, must be a bug. Also had to delete my logic x prefs as my sustain pedal stopped working. I tried «reset all but key commands» but that didn’t fix it. When I tried to delete the other control surfaces nothing happened, I could not delete any of them.

Normally I would blame permissions in the cs prefs but there’s no permissions anymore, not after Mavericks so not sure about that. The reason I used Kontrol49 is because it’s the only one that looked like a keyboard.

I got some functionality out of it by mapping Smart Controls to it but nothing like the remote function I used to get with Logic 9. I’ve now created the Mackie MCU Logic Control as you suggested and had some bizarre behaviour before realising I’d put it on the same port as the keys. I’ve now changed the CS to Port 2 and set up the keyboard as Remote Port 2 and it’s working as a control surface.

That may remain a mystery and will probably fix itself with a future update. Did you update your driver? Sometimes conflict could occur when the same device is used in both Logic’s versions. I was impressed when it asked to automatically assign my Samson Graphite 25 control surface to Logic, asking me to press «P 1″on my controller, however I couldn’t do that, because I suddenly lost all functionality : Logic has «greyed» out my keyboard screen.
