There is no legal free Vista download available. See if a Manual came with the computer, or go to the Manufacturer’s website, email or phone them for info on how to do a Recovery. Another way I have seen on some models is to tap F8, and go to a list of Startup options, and start a Factory Standards Recovery from in there, by selecting the Repair computer option. The Product Key determines which Vista version gets installed.

The Recovery process is designed and created by your computer manufacturer – HP. You will need to contact them for directions on how to restore the computer to factory conditions as each manufacturer differs – and sometimes it differs by computer within the same manufacturer. I found the following information on the site: To determine if the HP Recovery Manager is operational, press the power switch to turn on the computer, and then repeatedly press f11 during the startup.

The computer will display a prompt to either recover the operating system or create a set of recovery discs if the Recovery Manager is operational which does not require the purchase of a replacement recovery disc.

So to do it you first need to create or purchase a set of Recovery Disks and then they will work along with the Recovery Partition to restore your computer to factory-original condition. You will then need to use Windows Update to download all the updates and Service Packs that are not on the system.
